Okechukwu (Okey) Uche Esq.

Mr. Uche has 23 years of professional service rendering law, policy and development advisory services to public and business organisations. He led Accoplan Development Company Limited form a consortium with African Finance Corporation and UBA Capital that drafted the National Infrastructure Financing Policy for the Central Bank of Nigeria; he advised the Committee on Works of the Federal House of Representatives on Road Infrastructure; and as advisor to RockHaven Ltd, he co-authored a Transformation Management Plan for the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment. Mr. Uche is a Partner with Adroit Lex & Co. Lagos where he heads the Mining Group. Mr. Uche, either in academic, legal or senior corporate executive capacities has served the mining sector as follows:
(1) Between 1997 – 1998 he was Team Leader for the Mining Law Review Project under the Nigerian Minerals Appraisal and Monetisation Programme (NIMAMOP) – a programme of the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Abuja where his responsibilities included: designing and supervising the implementation of the Work Programme; Recruiting and supervising local & international Project Experts; Authoring recommendations for reform of the legislative and regulatory framework for Nigeria's mining sector;

(2) Rapporteur for the Solid Minerals Group at the Nigerian Economic Summit, Abuja, 2000;

(3) Member, Select Team of Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law & Policy at the University of Dundee, Scotland (CEPMLP) that advised the Republic of South Africa (RSA) on the reform of its energy legislation in 2001 (he specifically wrote the paper advising RSA on the International Law implications of the White Paper preceding the Energy Bill); Etc. He has also served as Country Representative for a United States based Investment Bank for constituting a US$100 million private equity fund for Nigeria's mining sector; and acquisition of a state owned enterprise under Nigeria’s privatisation programme; Advised a Canadian company in the acquisition of mineral exploration rights in Nigeria; Advised Chinese/Dutch/Nigerian joint venture for the acquisition/financing of mineral exploration assets in Nigeria.

Towards continuous education, Okey attends or speaks at seminars locally and around the world. He was a contributor at the Distinguished Speaker Series: Sustainable Development and Global Justice, by Jan Peter Balkenende (former Prime Minister of Netherlands), at The Hague Institute for Global Justice, The Hague, Netherlands, February, 2014. He has authored the following: Building Nigeria's Mining Industry: More Than Money published on page 38, Thisday Newspapers of September 23, 2014; Project Report: Background Studies and Strategy Report for the Constitution of a Private Equity Mining Fund for Nigeria, 2007; Can the Integration of West African Mining Lead to the Improvement of Investment Prospects for the Region? 2006; First Things First: What Preparations and Strategies Should Nigeria Employ to Attract Mining Investment? 2005; Legal Guide to Investing in Nigeria’s Mining Sector, Presented at the “Mining 2000 Conference”, CEPMLP, Dundee, Scotland (Published in volume 6 of the CEPMLP online Journal, 2000); Proposals for Amendment of 1946 Nigerian Mining Law presented at the 1st Mining in Nigeria Conference & Workshop, Abuja, 1998; Etc.

Okey earned a law degree from the University of Calabar in 1990 and enrolled as a Barrister & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1991. In 1996 he received a Pg.Dip in Bible & Leadership Studies from the Redeemers International Leadership Academy, Lagos. He has a postgraduate degree (LLM) in Resources Law and Policy from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law & Policy, University of Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom (CEPMLP). He has held memberships of professional bodies including: Nigerian Bar Association; International Bar Association; Commonwealth Lawyers Association, London, United Kingdom; Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, Toronto, Canada; Society of Mineral Explorationists, Colorado, USA; Scottish Oil Club, Edinburgh, Scotland; and others.

Mr. Uche is married and blessed with children. He enjoys music and chess for relaxation
